"Make them an offer they can't refuse "

I was interested by Damien Cassidy's comments here[/url:38zfzvry], particularly about his past form.

I don't know the details of what happened at St James's Gate or Kilmainham, but the Bewley's rescue happened by attracting a successful company who were willing to take it on and run it as a going concern. This is what will need to happen with the Beamish site: either they convince someone else to take it on, or the campaigners run it themselves. Either way, I think it's a waste of time pursuing it any further with Heineken. They've made their position clear and I don't see why they'd change it.

Taf, is there an organised campaign group for this? If there is, it might be worth contacting them to say there are probably people here who could do the brewing bit of the operation, were the business to be resurrected.

I'm in the group alright , I'll be sure to pass on the info .

The Problem is it is a very big site ( the centre of it is an old brewery and bar downstairs ) but theres a Huge plant around it and yards ands storage areas .

It has to have the support of the current owner if a smale scale setup is to be put in there, realistically no-one could buy the whole site as is , to protect the old brewery in the middle , and anyone who could buy the whole site ( I'll be very honest I don't think there'll be much interest It'll cost way to much to redevelop) would have zero interest in brewing being on site .

So really what has to happen is the current owners have to agree to split the site up and sell or lease part of it as a Beer museum / brew pub and sell the rest whatever way they're doing .

I imagine that's exactly what needs to happen, whether that's likely depends on the foresight of the current owners - which may be the problem. While a Guinness Storehouse type attraction (Jebus help us) will be a good tourist attraction it will do nothing to help the future of Irish beer.

Probably enforcers the idea that stout and other beers are made by mega international brands <!-- s:? --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_confused.gif" alt=":?" title="Confused" /><!-- s:? -->
