Also under the act contacted beer must not be more the 50% of total production

3. Qualifying criteria, section e,

"the quantity of beer brewed in the brewery under a licence, franchise or contract arrangement for another brewery must have been less than 50%"

That's what I thought- so it means that more contract brewing can be done by the established breweries and start-ups like Stone Barrel won't have to go to the UK to get their beer brewed.

As John says Carlow are there right now, I was told two years ago that they had a 70,000hl system. Porterhouse have to be close too, they do a lot of export business. Galway Bay are getting there; as are 8 Degrees with the new brew kit coming online.

Trouble wouldn't be far off either. They do their fair share of contract brewing.

That depends on the law.

In the States there is the concept of "alternating proprietorship[/url:10ran8g0]" where the guest/tenant brewer takes over the hosting brewery not just physically, but legally as well: has all their own licenses, titles, records, labelling and pays their own taxes.

(This is why I don't like the term "contract brewery" - all it tells me is that someone doesn't own kit; it gives no insight into how much they actually participate in making the beer.)

Is there anything similar in Ireland or the UK?

Besides the big one or two I would be very surprised if anyone else is anywhere near the old limit. This isn't based on any insider info, just rough sums.
Don't get me wrong, any positive announcement from the budget is always welcome, but for the majority of us it will have absolutely no effect.
