The Porterhouse have had a 7% ABV beer in regular production since 1996. They now have two. White Gypsy's 7-8%+ beers tend not to hang around when they appear.

I doubt the brewer in question is intending to install the beer in question in Paddy McLocal's Bar and Undertakers, but between the speciality beer houses around the country there's room for a strong beer, I think.[/quote:10duzlcd]

Sure, but it depends what end of the ABV spectrum we're talking here. I'd think of any ale around 7% as being a regular IPA. I personally tend not to drink anything stronger than that when I'm out.

But surely even in the craft beer pubs around Ireland, there is only so many 8 or 9% beers they're going to sell on any given night? (I'd be delighted to hear otherwise...)

I'd like to see an Imperial Stout on tap, around the 10% abv mark that you can buy in 200ml glasses.

I'll ahve to disagree with the DIPA idea, it won't see enough movement to be constantly in production, I'd love to see windjammer regularly for sale, I'd even go as far as to say it would be a better offering than the pale ale, and that is not to take from their pale ale, it's one of my go to beers.

But to answer Geoff's question, I'd love to see a milk stout hitting the market here but I think that would work more as a seasonal... I also think that an imperial stout aimed at the export market (read america) could do very well, but that would take a while to get hold, I'm just saying that because I want to add some friends to the Porterhouse barrel aged celebration stout's I've set aside!!

The idea is for a once off beer, not a regular brew. So any style will be considered by the brewer from stout & ambers to DIPA

I would vote for a dark lager/Pilsner.

Not too strong but a bit of flavour and lightness for quaffing on hot summer days
