I enjoy the Carlow IPA and LF and I would be sorry to see them go - if these unsubstantiated rumours are true - but my hunch is that there's a genuine appetite for good beer out there and that others would fill the gap if they were to go.

Great beers that seem to have only been getting better over the last two years. The pint of O'haras I had at "The Pub" (in the FXB group) in Monkstown last weekend was probably the best pint of stout I've had on nitro.

It had to be SUPER, SUPER fresh and had LAYERS of roastiness, and sweetness (molasses?). I WISH I could get it like that in the bottle.

But why do you think they would "go"? Surely in the hypothetical realm in which this thread has descended, IF they were being bought out, it's because they make great beers so why would whoever is allegedly buying them stop them from making great beers which is the whole point of buying them?

Have Goose Island stopped making great beers since they were bought out?

They wont go but normally what happens when large corporation take over smaller companies is that accountants take over the production process and "streamline" it usually to the determent of the final product,

Im sure the beers will still be around but the product might not bee as nice as when they were hand crafted beers.

For example, using hop extract instead of normal hops. using flavourings instead of speciality malts, etc......

dereko - just to be clear I don't know whether LF or the IPA will go and I don't assume they would either if the rumours are true.
