So it seems that the bleach and vinegar no rinse sanitiser has gained the ICB imprimatur. I'll have to give a go so, instead of using costly Starsan.

Funnily enough, we used StarSan for the first time when doing that bottling run pictured above. The amount of foam/bubbles was a bit worrying, but apparently normal and safe. The Bleach/vinegar is certainly cheaper, and does seem to work well. We should get an item up on cleaning and sanitising to highlight some of the cheaper alternatives using household products.

It sure does foam, but I haven't had any problems with it yet except for an unpleasant sulfur smell that is generated when I soak beer caps in it for bottling.

Thanks a lot lads, very informative indeed. I´m actually brewing today so it came very handy. Good job...

Very good article Barry. I can see the simple steps, with pictures, making the whole process more accessible to first time extract-with-grain brewers.

Do you use the same solution of bleach and vinegar for cleaning/sanitizing the bottles?

It´d be great to be able to skip the "three times" rinse or so of each bottle every time you add the milton stuff...
