Thanks Saruman and Spud.

Sheer genius!

How quickly can you crush enough grain for a mash, say 3 to 5 Kg?

I can't believe you tricked me into looking carefully at a picture of a plastic bag!

I suppose it could vary from drill to drill.
I use a Makita variable speed power drill which is decent but nothing out of the ordinary.
It took me 10 seconds or less to crush over 1KG and thats all the whole grain I have for the time being.
Crushing time would be very short and shouldnt really add time to a brewday.

Just to answer the original topic's question:

Bought a bag of malted wheat from a very dodgy bulk buy website ( ) The bestbefore date for whole grain is 18/3/14 i.e. nearly two Paddy's day years

Hi Will D,

Mind letting us know where you bought the grain & how much it cost?

Many thanks,
