As an aside - can you serve ales from a stout tap under nitro or would you just get a glass of foam? ?[/quote:26dgx179]
You can serve anything under nitro (i.e. mixed gas). Kilkenny is served under nitro... you get a creamy head.
The only problem with mixed gas/nitro is getting refills. There is only one place (aside from BOC, with whom you'd need an account) that will do them.

Thanks Tube. I have no problem with refills - a mate of mine "in the industry" is willing to just swap out my empty one for a full one whenever needed in return for a few brews!
Am I right in saying that you cannot force carbonate kegs with mixed gas? It has to be C02.
Sorry for all the questions - I'm a total kegging newbie!

shane, James - thanks for all of that - I think its cleared things up for me - while I would like the creamy option the mixed gas would give me - I think having the option to force carbonate is better !!! - so for now I think I now which way to go !
