Group Buy: Stainless Steel Beer Taps... Gauging interest 14 years 4 months ago #37

I'd be interested in one at that price. Like many of you, I'd probably like a stout tap too, but the prices quoted are a bit high. Mdonnellans quote looks interesting with the tower and two taps included.[quote:28os92jl]ed-8130 2 tap tower is the one with the ed-8109 flow control taps (colour gold) FOB NINGBO US$51
51*1.31(duty)=US$66.81 (€50) tower+2 flow control taps and fittings seems ok.[/quote:28os92jl]
As I'm only starting out with the kegs, I want to get up and running as cost effectively as possible.

I'm getting the run around from Irish distributor for Celli, so it's looking increasingly unlikely that I'll continue to try to give them money.

In the mean time I have a price for what look like FC2 clones, that are going to come in at about €32 landed. I need to check out the quality before proceeding any further.

yeah I might be interested in Mdonnellans quote

Is a flow Control Tap suitable for Stout ? ( totally ignorant on all of this !)

Flow control is a valve, usually on the side of a tap. Both tap types can come with it and without it. Taps without it are cheaper but there is more fluting around with beer line lengths required to counter-act foaming.

thanks Shane, does that mean they are suitable for Stout then ?
(as I said totally ignorant - and did I mention lazy ?- could prob research this but I know you guys can answer in seconds what would take me hours to figure out !)

You need a stout version of the tap, and if it doesn't say stout, it's not a stout tap.

The Celli FC4 comes in a stout version, but the cheaper Chinese-made one does not, at least not that I'm aware of.

Alternatively can use an old Guinness/Beamish/Murphys etc tap, and you can buy an in-line flow control valve as those taps don't have them.

(An in-line flow control valve isn't a normal on/off valve, which will just cause foaming. The FCV has a bullet-shaped restrictor inside it)

Bear in mind anyone looking for a stout tap really should have a mixed gas bottle and mixed gas regulator. I think you can drive a stout tap on CO2 alone, but afaik the results aren't 100%, and you really need the mixed gas setup.
