Ah, Lewis, very good. OSI have this available, but I think you have to pay, so that's great to find it freely accessible. I've used the Topographical Dictionary in the past, and it can be an entertaining read (sometimes! <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->).

Best of luck with the research. I'll keep trying to find out more if I can about general availability of this kind of information. I did some work with the NIAH team, so maybe they have more information internally. I'll keep you up to date with anything I find.

Well, my contact in NIAH (who I know has lurked on this site occasionally) is seeing about getting some more detailed database information to me so I can plug it into my GIS software to run some queries on it. Hopefully this will be possible.

I have in my hands 'The Industrial Archaeology of Cork City and its environs', so could plot the breweries of Cork easily enough. There are distilaries also, but there are eight breweries listed, with dates of establishment.

I also have access to the first edition six inch maps thanks to DoEHLG, and have been trawling for brewery locations. It's not the easiest, but the maps are so nice it's worth it <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

And the NIAH data I should be getting will make a great quick start too!

Gimme a few weeks and I should have a good list (with google map and references where possible) to old brewery locations.

Well, last night I finished extracting out every mention of "brewery" from Lewis's Topographical Dictionary, so I have a list of places at least, and some with information about owners, what they produced, and when they were established. I've tried plotting a few against the old maps, but some are so small they aren't labelled on the maps, so getting an exact location is impossible (for now).

I'm asking my former contacts in OSI about getting my hands on the layer of Brewery points from the historic mapping site, so with luck they'll agree, and it'll save loads of time <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

In the meantime, I'll compile a list, but will hold off publishing it until the three streams of information I have come together. If anyone want's the raw list from Lewis just drop me a PM and I'll mail it to you.
