Great article guys. I met with the lad from the Examiner last night, to do a draft for the upcoming article. I covered the three main types of brewing, being kit, extract and all grain. I mentioned the BBC and also Beoir, and obviously the upcoming BIY day. Also a big plug for ICB. He went on the site and seemed very impressed. I think he might actually be looking to get into brewing, as he used to work in Beamish when he was younger. There's going to be a bit of repetition against with this article, but we are trying to get the same message across, so it's all good exposure for the cause. I also tried to emphasise that it's not a way of getting dirt cheap drink, but a way of having more choice and control over what you are consuming and that it is actually a craft. He was interested in the cost per pint for the three main methods. I said about 50 cent a bottle for kit and about 25 to 35 cent for All grain, but not sure about extract? Can anyone give an estimate? He was also looking for an estimate of how many people are brewing. I know it's on the increase, but have no idea. How many memebers do we have on ICB? That would be a start anyway. I also mentioned the fact that some homebrewers have recently made the jump to setting up their own micro breweries, so there is a bit of press for the newest start ups. We also covered the point that a lot of people have travelled and come back to Ireland unable to source the beers that they have enjpyed away, so have had to make them themselves. He was also interested in the fact that I had made my own equipment, so I think they are going to take a picture of my mango chutney boiler. It's not shiny but never mind.
I'll mail him with anything else that I think of, but let me know if there is anything I should add. I think it's either going to be in next weekends suplement or actually on the Saturady of the BIY.
Cheers,
Billy.
