Came across this on the net and noted it was missing from your list:http: www.timebeer.com

Or all the staff of the Porterhouse are given free pints to sign up and vote PH, or a bunch of Cork lads are intent on getting a Best Beer for Cork, or I could get a bunch of Germans to vote for Satzenbrau, or... we could go on. Although it'd be hard to run a background check on everyone, I think it'd be easy to correlate a swing to "unusual" votes against users join dates to see if there's a pattern. Lets not get carried away with conspiracy theories (yet! )

Is your issue with the list itself? I also don't particularly like seeing the buds of the world on the list, but at least it's an open field. I suppose the issue is either make it open to every beer brewed on the Island, or every originally Irish beer brewed on the Island, or come up with a definition of what Craft Beer is and try to evaluate every beer to see if it at least fits that. There's a fine line sometimes.

Or have a category for Macro Swill (that was a joke! I believe the single best beer award and runners up is the logical thing to do for all sorts of reasons).

No, but only because I have very little experience of cider. I wrote about it here[/url:1i2ygysu].

Besides, I'm sure I can write a press release for Bud Light: Beer of the Year that expresses the appropriate sentiment.

The National Consumer Agency tells me that something counts as an Irish beer for them if it's branded by an Irish company. This is why we run the awards, not them

But people might have been working under cover for years, waiting for their opportunity. I bet TBN actually works for the marketing dept. of Diageo. The blog is probably all a front. Heck, "The Beer Nut" probably isn't even his real name. You mark my words when Bud Light has a landslide victory.

You [i:1qb2nw3k]could[/i:1qb2nw3k] easily exclude 'foreign' beers brewed under licence, or you [i:1qb2nw3k]could[/i:1qb2nw3k] define craft beers as those brewed by micros; but I guess there's no harm in having the full list up, and trust the voters.

Well, for the sake of excise duty, the Govt. defines a micro as:

[quote:110tpxei]Excise Relief for Microbreweries
A special relief reducing the standard rate of Alcohol Products Tax by 50% is being introduced for beers produced in microbreweries. This relief is equivalent to 29 cent (VAT inclusive) on a pint of beer of typical strength. For the purpose of this relief, microbreweries are breweries which produce not more than 20,000 hectolitres per annum.

But, I do accept your point in your last paragraph.
