At a guess you would want at most 12 ciders to be able to blind taste them. You would also want 5 to be of a reasonable quality and probably about 2 good new ones a year coming into the market.

Does this sound reasonable/practical?

Still, that's another way we could, nay should, do the awards, were it practical.[/quote:dveht67h]

Nah, not for me. If people want to do a 'Best tasting Beer' award then blind tasting is the way to go, but I like being suckered in by a bit of slick marketing.

Just read back on this topic and it looks like i am telling how to run the awards this year <!-- s:oops: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_redface.gif" alt="" title="Embarassed" /><!-- s:oops: --> . I am not.

The plan for this year looks great. If sometime in the distant future 1. ICB rules the world 2. There is a huge craft beer/cider/wine industry in Ireland then maybe you could add to the prizes or change how things are voted for. But until the day when TheBeernut is declared world benevolent dictator for life I think keeping things simple is the way to go.
