[quote:3w2rwckx]like everything else in Ireland it's hideously expensive because of all the hops[/quote:3w2rwckx]
So, are you blaming Ireland's current apparent economic crisis on the price of hops? Sounds as good a reason as any!

When discussing the hop varieties used by Diageo, Oz said "they buy on acid", which presumably means they buy the ones with the prettiest colours and which aren't trying to run away or melt or bite them.

[quote:2mr99upz]Can't say I cared for the format of the tasting with being given 15 seconds to talk about the Irishness of your beer and then being marked on Blarney as well as the beer, though.[/quote:2mr99upz]
Agreed. I found it difficult to push a beer with lemongrass and coriander as Irish

I would have preferred an approach where we shared and discussed the beers with the guys around the table. I thought it would have been less gimmicky. But as was pointed out the format chosen was probably a better 'fun' slot for TV.

BeerNut (and Microgirl), you can blarney for my beer anytime

LOL @ Acid

I heard that of three people selected for a chat with the boys, only one was a brewer? Sounds like snake-oil sales people to me

Actually, it would have been interesting to get the commercial craft brewers to do the same. I could imagine the response of one such business owner

I thought that was funny.

Well I did buy them on Parnell St. [size=75:14smgfcj]in the Asian shop[/size:14smgfcj]

Yes, the acoustics were terrible, I couldn't hear the acceptance speech but I was thinking of the IRMA awards ('Unfortunately Thom can't be with us tonight'). I did notice that the Centennial ale disappeared rather quickly so I didn't get to taste it. Having sampled a bottle previously I'd agree 100% it was a worthy overall winner. It just goes to show that even without the blarney the winning beers well deserved their places.
