From today's Irish Times[/url:o3nxu6xu].

This will be interesting. Another sticky den of alcopops and microwave burgers, or a cask ale mecca sending waves of trained cellarmen out into the wider trade?

Tonic (and all previous incarnations) have never done particularly well. I'm guessing it will be exactly the same with a 'spoons there. Especially with The Dark Horse 20 metres up the road.

it will be very interesting how they go at it to be honest.

The article says they are also looking at other locations in Dublin too so it will be interesting to see if they pick up any other places.

Lets not forget they are really well known for their food offering in the UK, but i'm really surprised that Blackrock is the first place. Given the well heeled residents.

Although the Dark Horse has done very very well from talking to people I know out there - totally transformed from its former life as the Avoca. Maybe thats what triggered the purchase.

All will be revealed i'm sure

shudder

although if JD Wetherspoon come in and start undercutting the locals it may lead to lower prices in general - or give em the kick up the rear end

Great news! Will be interesting to see what they do with cask beer. I assume they'll have it but I'd imagine they'll not just put 5 on from the start. Would take a while to build up demand for it.
