I was in Messrrs[/url:1plyap5d] last night. They have Old style porter for four euro a pint. Which is cheap considering bottles of Budvar are 6 euro.

It is a really nice beer with a chocolate malt taste and not overly cold. However Messrs only seem to have their own beer available from one set of taps. The rest of the bar is all the usual macro stuff. Also the beer is advertised as "Home Brew" which is not very tempting. That and the taps logo is a hand written bit of paper saying "Porter 5%" instead of spending five minutes to copy one of their other logos in a different colour and altered name.

Has Messrrs given up on their very good beer?

I've had that opinion for the last couple of years. I used to go to a weekly foreign students' night downstairs back when I was in college. The place used to be packed and it was all about the craft brew. Having been away for a while I took some friends and having hyped it up was sorely disappointed. A real shame.

It doesn't really make sense to see Messrs Maguire as a single business. Rather, it seems to me, the pub and brewery are independently run entities, forced to work together by an otherwise hands-off common owner.

Haven't they always advertised it as home brew? Or at least for many years now. Even as a home brewer it doesn't sound good... <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

Oh right they just don't seem to be working very harmoniously together. The plain was not there and the hand written sign was pretty sad.

Maybe it has. The A4 sheet with "our home brew 4 euro" without any backing images was also not overly glamorous.

The porter did not taste overly carbonated or nitrogenated to me. As close to cask as I have seen a draft beer.

Gotta say, the notion of it being "home brew" never put me off.
