Wetherspoons Milton Keynes.... 12 years 11 months ago #7

I have a soft spot for Wetherspoons. When I started going out it was the only place in Derry that sold real ale(and still is). Plus it was dirt cheap, so while the rest of my friends were up on the Derry walls knacker drinking cheap cans I was in a warm pub drinking pints for sometimes as cheap as £1. A few pints there and then off to the pub we'd spend the night in.

Saw something similar at the one in Carrickfergus - she had the decency to walk outside, but this was also around noon, so gotta wonder: what time did she start drinking?

In big cities 'Spoons seem to raise their game. One near Wembley is decent and I've heard a few in central London are among the best pubs there.

They're cheap. You pays yer money and takes yer choice.
If Wetherspoons ever came to Dublin and sold half a dozen cask beers at €3.50 a pint, I'd say there would be a fair few folk who would look past the vomiting teenagers and Jagermeister promos. As a lot of drinkers already do in the UK.

And this is the problem. It's our addiction to "cheap stuff" that causes scandals like horse burgers and sweatshop collapses. Wetherspoons (like Yate's Wine Lodge) business model seems to be predicated on getting people as drunk as cheaply as possible and never mind the consequences.
