Had the misfortune of spending this entire week in Milton Keynes. I'd spoken to the head brewer in Concrete Cow Brewery, trying to find where their beers were. His recommendations was for Wetherspoons in MK.

So, Wetherspoons Milton Keynes:

Pro: 5 cask ales

Con: Everything else.

Talk about soulless barns of a pub. I visited 2 (didn't bother with the 3rd). Okay, they have a decent number of casks. But that's off laid by their wine-on-tap; Stupid cheap pitchers of cocktails (£10 for 2); Relaunch of Hooch; Cheap Jagermiester shots; And on top of that- cheap generic Curry Night.

First pub I went into (Secklow Hundred) I order a pint of Concrete Cow Midsummer Ale. The barman presents me with a pint of clear liquid. I said "I'll think you'll find that's a pint of line cleaner". He tastes it, spits it out and then goes to talk with his manager. He then tells me that the Midsummer Ale won't be delivered until next week. Yet they still have a pump handle with a clip on it!!!

Fuckwits.

Part 2- In Birmingham International Airport. Wetherspoons has Abbots, Ruddles and a couple of other generics on cask. Meriden has Purity Ales Golden and IPA.

Fuck you Wetherspoons. Worst is, they have all this advertising about how many of their pubs are CAMRA rated.

Oh, and did you know, Jagermiester Ice Cold is what brings friends together and creates lasting memories.

Seriously, that's Wetherspoons spin on the get-drunk-quick crap.

Wetherspoons aren't pubs, they're retail outlets that sell alcohol.
In my experience their staff are poorly trained and motivated. Many years ago in a Wetherspoons in London, 3-4 of us entered the bar. Bar maid was chatting on the phone. More staff than customers. She said to her friend, Gotta go, we're very busy.

There was a time when I had hoped that they would come here to put manners on the vintners, now I'm not so sure.

The best was one of the group of drunken girls went up, puked at the bar and then got her pitchers of cocktails and walked off. I seriously wanted to grab her by the back of the neck, rub her nose in it and say 'NO, civilised people do not do this!"
