Wetherspoons Milton Keynes.... 12 years 11 months ago #13

Would agree with Andrew. If I buy the frozen burgers for €x, I'll have more money left for booze. Back in the 90s my local Spoons used to sell a bitter for 89p and Guinness for £1.50. It was and remains a souless barn with less than inviting customers who are attracted by one thing only.

The Spoons in Newcastle opposite the train station is not too bad. There was a very decent selection of cask ales and ciders when I was there before, but also a lot of hen/stag parties.

I was there a couple of years ago, killing time before a flight back to Belfast. Some dodgy looking punter shuffled over and tried to sell me and my mate drugs - it was Sunday lunchtime!

I lived in Milton Keynes up till March. I have to agree with you. Sometimes they had a good selection on, and they had cheap food. But overall the place was pretty soulless.

There are a few quaint independent pubs in Milton Keynes but they are not easy to find. But your post brings back a lot of memories.

Has anyone tried the Brewdog bars? There are a few of them around the UK. Glasgow, Camden (london), Birmingham are the ones that I know of. I was very impressed, a huge selection of Craft beers and great food. I can't wait to get back there this summer.
