So Anchor Small is the same beer as Old Foghorn because it's second runnings with the same ingredients? But wait, they have different names - so if Porterhouse called their 11% stout by a different name even with the same recipe, it would get a different voting entry, but if they're both called Celebration they're the same?

There's some ropey logic in there.

I understand and agree with your central point: laying a beer on oak doesn't turn it into another beer the same way that different combinations of dry hopping don't change it the same way that Moonbeam with cranberries on cask and Moonbeam on keg are the same beer, for voting purposes.

No argument there.

I just don't think that's what going on here.

4 point difference in ABV, aged in wood, divergent flavours - how different does a beer have to be before it becomes it's own thing?

Anyway, I've had a rummage in the ballot box and I think it's still safe enough to separate them. Votes already cast for Celebration will be assumed to be for the non-barrel-aged version. We can discuss whether recombination is appropriate if it's material to the final result.

Thanks, TBN.

Yes, but it costs €250 a pint and you have to pick the syringes out yourself.

Surely if you follow a recipe you get a beer like the recipe predicts.

If you make two batches from the SAME recipe and one is 7% and t'other is 11% then you'd best go back to brewing kits until you master consistency!!
