The VAT increase was across the board, I meant a specific price increase on beer.

Brewers have added their now seemingly annual increase and publicans have followed suit to protect their margin. But still its always someone elses fault that the pub sector is fupped. The majority sell the same tired brands with no hope of a choice.

Brewers would tend to add an annual increase. It helps to pay for the ever-escalating price of energy and raw materials. Nothing wrong with protecting what little margin they have, they're not charities after all. They have bills to pay like the rest of us. I don't know who is ultimately responsible for the slow death of the on-trade, but it certainly isn't the brewers alone. Good pubs will survive, and the better ones have realised the way to do this - by offering good beer, good food, in a good environment, at a fair price.

And will be for some time. The punitive Beer Duty Escalator will see to that.

I think we'll be seeing a lot more pubs install Tuborg taps.

The 1 euro increase in a bottle of wine is a real kick in the balls for off licenses. Probably a boost for the homebrew suppliers selling wine kits.

Lot's of talk about people going north for wine. Has anyone bench marked the price differences ? Sainsbury's didn't seem particularly cheap last time I checked.

Wine prices, like my mother-in-law is relative.

If you go to a decent off-license or wine merchant to get your premier-cru at €30 to €50 a bottle then then whats a Euro increase? Nowt to worry about

HOWEVER if you can only afford a good Lidl or Aldi or JCs or Tesco wine at say € 6 its a F***ing MASSIVE increase.

Just goes to show we get the government we deserve ( snugs into his Welsh, I'm Not from Here cloaking device )

Again Nob-Hill inhabitants gets left alone whilst the peasants who we are trying to wean off cheap lager and re-train their palates to enjoy a glass of wine are F'd
