The duty was currently at €15.71 per hectolitre per ABV%
Assuming the 10 cent figure relates to a standard pint of Guinness at 4.2%ABV that is
100 litres / .568 = 176 pints at 10cent per pint or €17.61 per hectolitre of 4.2% beer
So an increase of €4.19 per hectolitre per ABV%.
If I've done the sums right. It means they pushed up the excise on beer by a whopping 26.7%
Of course the real swindlers are the publicans who have been taking the piss for ages, but I still think that as a consumer organisation we should issue an official protest at this.
p.s. the increase on the rate of duty on wine is more like 50% (from €262.2per hectolitre to €395.5 ....again, assuming I've done me sums right)
