i know you all experience this from time to time unfortunately, you are out with your friends/family with em...inferior beer tastes, at the local or some over-priced cattle market...with of course a very poor selection of beer..so what do u all go for in that horrible situation, mine would be guinness, whats your 'grin and bare it' tipple?

Depends a lot on the situation. First preference would be whatever the current Brewhouse is: it's pretty much the same as Guinness, but I think they should be encouraged to do different things where possible. Second choice is Guinness. If the Guinness is not to be trusted, as is often the case in your over-priced cattle market, then Smithwick's.

Same here, brewhouse, then guinness, or if possible pint-bottled guinness. Failing that I'll go to wine.

I have started to go with bottled guinness when out

Gawd, if there's one thing worse than the standard of beer in most Irish pubs, IMHO, it's the standard of wine. Gibney's of Malahide is the only decent wine pub I can think of. It has an award-winning beer off-licence attached and an abysmal selection of beers available in the pub <!-- s:roll: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt="" title="Rolling Eyes" /><!-- s:roll: -->

Colmans of rathgar is a good wine pub - they charge a corkage on wine bought in their attached offie
