Best of luck, if you don't have your own pub the best model to follow is Galways Hookers by doing something different

Welcome to the site Cillian, and best of luck with the venture!

I'm curious, what made you consider starting such a business? Just so we know when you are a rich and famous brewer

Thanks for all your replies so far. Ken, I have taken a look at the legal links etc and they look really useful.

The initial goal is to produce a great tasting lager - any ales/stouts would come later. The reason - I am sick of going into irish pubs and giving my money to some dutch, danish, belgian, or french lager producing company when we have such a rich history in brewing/distilling other alcoholic drinks. I think we can compete... and as I mentioned we have the premises for free at the beginning which would be a major cost saving.

I have just started another company - www.henri-james.com and with any luck this will fund the beginning of our brewing!!

But as i said before if anyone is interested in getting involved then we would be happy to meet with a view to entering into some form of partnership, assuming we all get on!

We have looked at Galway Hooker and like what they have done - we would definitely learn a thing or two from them.

I think you're instantly on the road to failure if you go down this already overpopulated route. You need to be able to produce something different, not another me-too. Thats what the Hooker boys did, nothing like it on the market at all, fills a void, and has been successful because of it. If you go in trying to compete with Heineken, Bud, Harp, Miller, Coors, etc with all their enoromous market budgets behind them I can't see you making much of an inroad.

I hope I'm wrong though.

Welcome to the site. Best of luck. Have you seen
[url:1aasmego]http://www.clanconnelbrewing.com/[/url:1aasmego] which was set up recently by Blackhawk a member here. Great company and a lovely beer.

I'd be wary of getting into brewing because you want to compete with the big boys and are sick of sending money abroad and all that. I've met a lot of brewers both here and abroad and they all share a great passion for beer and brewing. So I'd find out if you love brewing first. If you do fair enough cos then you'll be happy when you're shoveling spent grain out of a mash tun.

I can't offer technical expertise just tasting expertise
