They made a beer which was neither a stout, lager nor red ale -- something where they weren't up against the type of beer the big breweries make, and therefore not struggling against their massive marketing campaigns.

Galway Hooker is the only hoppy pale ale permanently available on draught in Ireland -- a good niche to have.

When you say do something different like Galway Hookers, how woould you describe what they did?[/quote:2uq8i8j8]

They brewed a pale ale with a mix of English and America C hops in the style of an America pale

The usual Idea in Ireland is to brew a stout ,red ale lager (Generally not that great) and maybe a hit and miss wheat. Although Franciscan Well does a good wheat

I have been looking at stats for volumes sold etc.

Very interested to be able to model the financials if say you achieved .5% of the market working from the typical mark-ups / margins that pubs / off sales need.

By different I am sure he means that they saw a gap in the market. No one else in Ireland does an IPA style beer.
They also have a nice play on words with the name too <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

Now if only they would brew more beer, I have only had the hooker and their dunkelweisse (special).
