Did they offer you any compensation? Were they even apologetic? What company was it, as a matter of interest?

That's bloody awful news. I'm sorry about the trouble you are being put through. There are quite a number of pharmceutical big guns based in Ireland, as oconn said, so perhaps something else might turn up.

I've pinged an email off to one of the HR lads here to see if he can shed some light on it for me, on the possible courses of action available to you

There's probably not a lot you can do. Unfortunate situation definitely, but thats life.

Our place has done similar in the past - offered a load of jobs to new grads, then we had cutbacks, so of course those new grads were never hired. It's much worse in your case of course as you lost a redundancy package, packed up your belongings etc. If you had actually moved and started over here you might be entitled to a little more, but Notice is all they are legally obliged to give you in that case.
He's going to see if he can find out more from some more legal people for me, I'll let you know.
