Should breweries set a RRP for their beer? 12 years 1 week ago #7

I don't think we should be dictating or policing prices. As a consumer association we should advocate value for money and let people decide for themselves exactly what that is.

I agree with this. However I do think we should highlight some of the bad examples eg The waterloo just off baggot st sells 500ml bottles of Galway Hooker for an eye watering 6.70.

While it's great to have choice. I can choose not to pay that kinda money for an Irish beer.

GB have some pretty questionable pricing on some of their bottles IMO.

I have been asked by a brewery if Beoir has a position on "overcharging" by pubs.

I agree with this. However I do think we should highlight some of the bad examples[/quote:1sd5945e]There's a logical problem here, in that there's no way to define "bad". If you publicly condemn €6.70 bottles of GBB beer you invite the question "Well what's the maximum acceptable price, then?" and suddenly you're dictating and policing prices.

I'm happy to [i:1sd5945e]know[/i:1sd5945e] the price of the beer in The Waterloo, and elsewhere, but I would have a problem with Beoir saying what their management is doing is "bad".
