Should breweries set a RRP for their beer? 12 years 1 week ago #13

And just as I post that, I see the LVA, VFI, Restaurant Association, NOffLA, Irish Hotels Federation, and the big breweries are calling for a "a statutory ban on price-based advertising".

We need to keep talking about, and publicising, prices. The producers and retailers don't seem to want consumers to make decisions based on it.

We could in effect do that with out the positive or negative descriptors and simply say. In this pub a bottle of Galway hooker is 6.70. It is then up to the individual to decide.

There is obvious pisstaking going on generally in my experience by the non craft bars. Like the example above. But again this is only my opinion.

Peruke and Periwig in Dawson St charge 750 for dungarvan as far as I'm aware. I had it in a restaurant with my lunch recently 150 meters away for 5 quid.

On Andrews point I know the specific case he is talking about and as I said I'd admire a brewery with stones to remove a beer from a pub or chain if the price was ridiculous in their opinion. Higher priced beer at excess will not encourage newcomers to try a beer. The story and locality is not enough.

At the end of the day its a business first based on shifting volume.

How about something on the directory (and therefore the app) along the lines of: €, €€, €€€ to indicate price levels in venues?

How about just including the cash price of beers listed, where known? The date should be included as well. Category bands would get messy, I think.

because it would be a pain in the arse to keep them up to date. Category bands are easier because if a place is expensive, it stays expensive.

What would the criteria for the bands be?
