I don't think you've shattered anyone's dreams, because as I've said no one thinks a week long course is some kind of license to set up a brewery, and secondly this bee you have in your bonnet about some BER cert has very little to do with people's successes in brewing. The two things are incomparable and unrelated. Again, plenty of good examples even in Ireland of such successes, so no amount of negative talk can really obscure the fact that it can be done and has been done many times before.

'If you're already in a stable job why would you?' I guess because you follow something you are passionate about and something you believe you can be happy doing. That's what the Metalman guys did I believe? I'm sure they are happy they did. It's like the many hardworking musicians and artists working every day for something they love with no guarantee of success.

I probably won't get a chance to use proper industry brewing equipment in my shed, and maybe there's a chance I might meet some like-minded people doing a short course in something I'm interested in. I might even learn something. I'm hardly having my dreams shattered though.

Three people from the last course are opening a brewery, one has got a job in a brewery, if one has an attitude of doom, gloom and failure then that's your outlook and that's what you see, however, if you are serious about taking up a career in brewing this course gives a good insight. You will need to have done some research and a business plan at least started.
Like any industry, no one is going to hold your hand and set the whole thing up for you, however, some of the best companies are set up during a recession, if you can make it work in the worst of times you've a great chance of sucess.
The course was of great benefit to me.
And it's being hosted by Shane in the Well as said above, happy days. Brewmaster Tim O'Rourke is the lecturer.

I must be thick.

I've looked on skillsnet.ie and can find no mention of anything to do with brewing. Is this off the radar?

Is this open to jobseekers only, or employed persons if they are prepared to pay a fee?

I would love to partake depending on the course material, if I could find this.

Here is where I am looking...

Give them a buzz, I did both courses, one compliments the other really. The brewing course is quite detailed for one week. Well worth it, if you approach a brewery at least it shows interest and some brewing related skill. The pass rate is 66% and above and there is a hell of a lot of information to take in.
