Well, having had a closer look on Friday evening, the pump clip describes the Imperial as a "smoked stout". That goes some way to describe the flavours I detected on first visit, which came across as almost medicinal, iodine-like, and reminded me of an Islay Scotch malt whisky.
Rather disconcerting though on the Friday was that it was served almost flat. Reckon the bar staff were as surprised as me! Having drunk "flat" beer at beer festivals it didn't bother me and I wondered if they were serving it from a cask, just using the electric pump to draw the beer? After all, it was common enough in northern England and the Midlands for electric pumps to be used for real ale. Just wondering. Anyway still a pleasant pint. And by the way, the Bock was still on I think, at least it still said so on the pumps on the 1st floor, but the Weisse had gone.
