What is Craft Beer? 14 years 3 months ago #13

So industrial breweries employ scientist to produce beer and micro/craft breweries employ talented brewers?

What level of output must a brewery reach before thay become industrial?

I'd imagine that Sierra Nevada brew far more than say, 8 Degrees. Are SN industrial?

Now you are simply twisting words . If you read what I posted I mentioned nothing about who's employed in the brewing . Industrial is a term to denote a method , and craft another method . The scale isn't contained in the term , but industrial generally tends to larger quantity and Craft to smaller quantity . This could be furniture , cars or beer .

In Ireland , Micro brewing is a legally defined amount per year . you can search here , or with revenue to find out the exact amount.

Beoir has a definition of it's own , " Craft Irish Beer " for Beoir is :-
Micro brewed ( according to the Legal guidelines) by an
Independentley owned brewery on the Island of Ireland .

That's about it really .

I dunno about Sierra Nevada and American definitions for Craft . Sierra Nevada comes under the Import category for me .

I wasn't twisting what you wrote, read what you wrote. I disagree with your stand that macro/industrial is bad and micro/craft is good.

Guinness is the biggest selling beer in Ireland. Some people hate it, 1,000,000s love it. It is brewed by an international conglomerate. That doesn't make it a bad beer. Fullers is in the same bracket, a very large successful company with some excellent beer and some meh beer. Going by the Beoir interpretation of craft beer then there are some craft beers brewed on the Island of Ireland that wouldn't hold a candle to Guinness or London Pride. Neither of which would be considered a craft beer, regardless of where they are brewed.
