I think I met the same bar man.

A couple from Australia were sat at the bar, and we got chatting. The guy had just worked his way through the complete range of Porterhouse taps. I asked what he thought of the TSB, when the bar man butted in, saying he advised the guy against drinking it, saying it's only good for washing glasses.

When you get a fresh pint it's right up there for flavour, but I've had more average ones than great ones.

Wobbler, did you not say in your pub map that the staff in the porterhouse were downright hostile? I'd have to agree with you on that. I've been barked or ignored any number of times in their pubs.

I think the difference is between someone giving their own personal opinion, and a bar man being asked about the condition of a drink.

Yes. There is a barman in the one in Templebar who has been really rude to me several times. If it wasn't for their beer, I'd never darken the door of that place.

Maybe I'll give TSB another chance. I'd like to like it if you know what I mean.

[quote:1eyxcppr]I asked a dickhead barman in the porterhouse central the other week how the TSB was and he replied,
"It's good for washing dishes".
[/quote:1eyxcppr]This is one of the problems with the Porterhouse venues. They brew some really good beers, but some of their staff are clueless about beer which is unbelievable for a brewpub. But then maybe I'm being naive...

TSB can be hit and miss but it's a lovely pint when it's in decent nick. This raises another issue about cask beer - if you don't know how to look after it the beer can suffer. Given our lack of experience with cask beer over here I can understand how that would turn a publican off.

Yeah, I don't think he was being rude on that occasion , but he's not doing the pub any favours. He makes it seem like a bloody awful sup when it might not be to some tastes, but is still pretty good.
