Which brewers are using Irish barley malt? 14 years 10 months ago #25

I am sorry to say that the offer of malt for homebrewing from the Kilbeggan Distillery is not available. I am very sorry but for various reasons we will not be able to supply anyone with malted barley. My intention was to try and help individuals who wanted small amounts of barley but at this time the logistics do not make that possible. I apologize for making an offer that we will not be able to honor. As a homebrewer I understand how hard it is to get small amounts of malt in Ireland.

Thanks for thinking of us, anyway. Certainly let us know if anything changes or if 25kg sacks of malt make it more feasible.

There are some things better left unsaid on this site sometimes. Powers that be get involved and cry about their need to run a business and we end up with no one allowed to supply outside of the "traditional" methods, or product verticals as was quoted to me by Muntons once.

I dunno. The Malting Co of Ireland seemed willing to do business on a small scale when I spoke to them.

There is nothing to stop us getting together as a group and organising the collection and milling of pale malt from them.

It should work out cheaper than buying imported malt as well as having the advantage of supporting Irish growers and maltsters.

Using Irish grown ingredients is important to me as a home brewer and as a consumer.

I agree and I just ran out of all base malt as of Saturday. I could SPLIT a bag with someone but couldn't handle one of my own.

Should we start a list of who wants malt and whether a half or a full bag? (Bags are around 20kg, right?) -The last bag I split up the first day and I don't remember how much it weighed.

Others collect this is wheelie bins and transport them in a van from the MCofI.

Does anyone have a van we could borrow!?

Then where to take it for milling and packaging?

Logistics, logistics!

I would take 25Kg, probably about every 3 months too...
