Which brewers are using Irish barley malt? 14 years 10 months ago #19

That's great. I have some large plastic crates I can use.

NO excuse now for not using home grown Irish malt!

Base Malt in the Franciscan well is Beamish Lager Malt from the Malting Co of Ireland . Speciality malts are imported from Muntons I think ...

Do they have a nice pale malt or only the lager malt that the big breweries want?

(I think a couple years back when some guys got together for a group buy lager malt was all that was available...)

Adam

P.S. Anyone CONSIDERING going out to Kilbeggin DO IT and be sure to take the tour of the distillery. I've been to a LOT of breweries and a few distilleries as well and there's no where that just takes you back in time like the Kilbeggin facility. You can wander at your own pace; it's just gorgeous. I'm not sure if the tour officially lets you upstairs from the tasting room where the "action is" but I was able to just wander up there when I visited and it's great seeing all the barrels and the fermention just ROLLING and active.

MCofI were doing Sebastian and Cocktail the last time I spoke to them. Both very high quality pale malts. If they're good enough for Cuilan, Cooley and Co they're good enough for me!

Alex Chasko from Cooley Distillery. We get malt by the lorry load from Malting Company of Ireland.

I am going to make an offer to any homebrewers out there. If you come down to the distillery in Kilbeggan during the week from 9am-5pm. I will sell you malt (milled or un-milled) at the price that we buy it at. As much or as little as you want. All that I ask is that you brew with it! We have 2 row malted Irish Barley, un-malted spring barley, Oats, and in Sept we will have malted rye.

I don't want to supply someone who is going to sell it at three times the price. I want to help homebrewers who want Irish Malt. Just let me know when you are going to stop by and we will do our best to help you out.[/quote:3u0hjx2v]

Alex, This is a BRILLIANT offer to all of us. I will be comming down for the malted rye and the 2-row barley. I assume you don't use any Irish malted wheat!! ( Would make for great head retention in the whiskey !! )

I then intend to brew an Irish Roggen Beer ( Wheat/Rye/Barley Hefe weisen style beer from Germany )

( May have to malt the wheat myself )

But if all goes to plan the hops will be home grown

Again, Many thanks from all of us for the offer

Ps: Is the whiskey any good
