But since I tried a bottle off the shelf a couple of months ago I find the draught pretty bland. I think I just prefer the bite when there's no nitro in it.

[quote:1ig9omwv]Some sort of ambient kegerator arrangement? [/quote:1ig9omwv]

Sounds interesting, but no. Just old fashioned bottles I brought back to the shop for tenpence each. I remember getting served Guinness in the shop when I was about 8 (1987ish)on visits to Dublin. It seems incredible now, but if the local shop keep knew your family he'd let you bring anything home. My Mum must have forgotten that things were different in England because when we went home she sent me to the local Pakistani corner shop to get some Guinness, and the shop keeper was not impressed with me at all.

I always have Guinness if there isn´t any other interesting choice, it took me a while to get to love it but...

Also recently, bottles of McArdles when we are down in Wexford. It´s a nice change from the stout. I used to have sometimes Stella but in more than one occasion it made me go a bit crazy, can´t touch it now.

Don't think much of Stella. A small step up from your usual muck but certainly nothing special.

I occasionally go for Murphys or Beamish. I think they're both quite good too.

I was in a nasty pub a few weeks ago with bad Guinness. There were no nice bottles behind the bar so I was genuinely stumped. I ended up drinking a Gin & Tonin, then went elsewhere.

No consensus about what the default non craft beer should be. Could it be that they all have de faults that make them unworthy?
