[quote:bcs5se9x]Funny, I thought they did have a handpump, at the downstairs bar in the corner at a right angle to the other taps. They were definitely handpumping Maguire's Best at Hilden.[/quote:bcs5se9x]

Getting back to Messrs Maguire, and I'm aware it's my fault we drifted off topic, the brewer casks quite a bit of his stuff and The Hilden Brewery distribute it for him around the North and in England.

A few people have mentioned a beer engine in Messrs but I've never seen it. It's a shame, you'd think they would chance one cask beer what with the brewery producing so much of it.

I mentioned on a previous topic here about my visit to Messr Maguies a month or two ago when I was quite pleased with the Best Bitter and the Rusty. Also took home a botrtle of MM Porter and Bock. Had a bock previously which I thought was o.k. but opened the Porter last week - have been out of sink from here for a few days in sunny Cape Clear off west Cork but that's another story. No craft beer but had a great time. Anyway back ot MM Porter - I thought it tasked lovely, had a kind of burnt aftertaste. Would certainly try it again. I presume it is quite different from the Pint of Plain but it is a bottle I was impressed with. For anyone living in or near Cork it is available in Bradleys in North Main Street who do a nice selection of beers as well.

Yes, it's totally different to the Plain, which is rather bitter, in a nice way. The nitro head makes it a different experience as well.
