I enjoyed that article, congrats to all involved. It's exactly what is needed. I also agree that beoir should not care about whether it is featured enough, after all we are all about supporting craft beer in Ireland, not promoting ourselves. If the aim of raising the profile of craft beer is realised then beoir can be satisfied, we're not a political party.

As I see it, Beoir's job is to support and promote Irish craft brewing. When an article that's entirely about Irish craft brewing appears in the media, there's no need for Beoir to be there.

It's Beoir's job to get things like this article, and the BEER feature from last summer, written -- as comprehensively as possible -- in the first place. And that's what Beoir has been doing.[/quote:9hzzsme0]

I think that Beoir needs to raise its profile in order to be more effective and taken seriously by the media. I think both articles cited would have been written whether Beoir existed or not. Yes, it's Beoirs job to get articles like this written but is there any form of comprehensive strategy in place to do so? For instance, the Food and Wine magazine is doing a big make-over and writer reshuffle right now; is there any way we can get in on that?

What do you mean by "get in"? Food & Wine know who we are. We've done events with them in the past. What would you suggest that wouldn't end up looking like pestering?

Great article

Thought it was a superb article. Had quite a few texts/emails from non-beer aficionados about it over the weekend. All along the lines of "so this is the kind of thing you've been banging on about. Sounds really interesting, must try some of these beers".

Which suggests to me that an article in the Times will do a lot to raise the profile of craft beer in Ireland and possibly increase sales and (more importantly) pubs where said beers will be stocked. Which is a good thing.

It also suggests that my efforts at proselytizing Irish craft beer have been less than successful. So no future role as Beoir PRO for me!

The only drawback i could see was developing an unnatural "goo" for pints of Hooker at 10am on a Saturday morning when i was reading it.

I don't think that advocacy is equivalent to pestering.

But my suggestion would be to post a polite email to them asking if they had any plans to include a regular column in their revamp for craft brews (doesn't have to be Irish). Offer further help/research if they need it. If we've done events with them in the past it should be easy enough to approach them because someone in Beoir should have contact details of the relevent people. The worse they can say is 'no'; and if that is their response, thank them for their time and move on.
