Three new beers, Two Scots and a Belgian. anyone tried them? 18 years 11 months ago #1

We just got three new beers in today but I've never tried them? Won't be able to until after work so does anyone here know them? Any info much appreciated... Don't like trying to inform people about a beer I've never tried...

Gulden Draak - Belgium
Old Jock Ale, Broughton Brewers - Scotland
Exciseman's 80/- Broughton Brewers - Scotland

Also, does anyone know what the "80/-" stands for? Is it similar to the degree's with the Americans?

Thanks Guys!

80' is 80 shillings, i'm sure les will come in on this later but it was the excise duty afaik so 80 was stronger than 70 or 60, don't think there are many 70 or 60's around any more. any chance of you getting any deuchars 80' in?

pretty sure i had the guulden draak when i lived in holland. and whatya know i JUST came back from the offy (devenys in Dundrum) with th 80/and champion double ale.
Just cracked the 80/ - nice and malty, i think i get blackcurrant aftertaste, but that could be the blackcurrant i drank just before. Reasonably light in the mouth for such a malty smelling beer - smells like unfermented wort! not very hoppy.
and yes the 80/ is to do with the excise placed on it. says something about it on the bottle label

All,

May I just compliment HapyAcid; he was certainly not BSing us on the selection available, between the McHughs in Coolock and the one he works in, I have secured myself (along with my Celebration stout for cellaring) the following beers for the weekend:

Broughton Old Jock

Broughton Excisemans

Youngs old Nick

Rouge Dead Guy

Gulden Draak

Strongarm bitter

Fraoch Heather Ale

Rochfort 8

Flensburger Gold

Fullers 1845

Circle Master

Hobgoblin

St Peters Cream stout

And here is the pic of them all
