Well that was quite cool. Two American blokes have decided to set up an operation importing beers directly from the US to Ireland. They're starting the ball rolling with four from Gordon Biersch[/url:uop9iwl6] (Pils, Bock, Märzen, Weizen) and three from Speakeasy[/url:uop9iwl6] (Untouchable Pale Ale, Prohibition Pale Ale, Big Daddy IPA). At €2.50 a bottle each RRP, they're pretty good value, especially the Prohibition, IMO.
They're also bringing in a range of ciders from Red Branch[/url:uop9iwl6]. The peach one is particularly good, and I liked the cherry one, but they're asking a tenner for a half-litre bottle so I doubt I'll be buying any.
And then they casually mentioned, because they didn't reckon anyone would be interested, that they're importing a couple of California meads as well, from the same people[/url:uop9iwl6] as the cider. There's a sweet and a dry one, for €15 and €18 respectively, and the latter, I thought, was particularly gorgeous.
Look out for a tasting event in Sheil's of Drumcondra in the next day or so, and for the gear in shops now. They're also exhibiting at the Great Irish Beer Festival[/url:uop9iwl6] next weekend.
And thanks again, marceldesailly, for letting us know. There was no Samuel Adams or Goose Island, though. I want my money back.
