Personally not a fan of the branding, think it's lazy and stereotypical and just going for the novelty factor. As a result I can understand why it would be confused with a macro brewery trying to gain foothold, especially when you consider the origins of another "oirish" branded beer, Cute hoor.

That said, I quite like the Lidl offerings, although the Mcargles I found pretty awful, the one time i fell foul of the cheap laugh advertising - same as Cute Hoor actually.

I have not been in Waterford since 2012.

I disagree, we're the consumers and its up to us to give feedback (constructive if possible) about what products we do and don't enjoy. Obviously the major feedback will be not buying a product if you don't like it. But where a channel is available to give more specific feedback then it should be grasped. Its up to the business what to do with it.

Also you misinterpretted PDB's point on the sticker. He said it was "way over the line". "petty sticker" is referring to the act -> the person who stuck the sticker was petty

As for the sticking of the label it wouldn't surprise me if it had been done by a competitor, a lot of commentary has been made on the "commodotisation of craft" and creep of macros into he craft beer market though the culprit have made the mistake of making assumptions and forgetting craft here in Ireland has a specific definition that Rye River conforms to.

Personally I'd prefer the product didn't exist, I agree with the comments on lazy stereotyping and pedestrian beers...but someone must be drinking them if they're still in production. Its not as if there aren't tens of other breweries producing beers i want to drink.

And Alex, I welcome all the investment and new products. I think because you guys have the money available to do this it is bound to generate jealousy among those who have had to scrimp to make ends meet.

I certainly hope you bottle some of these other products rather than just the stack 'em high sell 'em cheap mass market brands

I actually know of many people who absolutely love the red ale and stout. Branding aside that is.

its quite easy to search our A-Z of Ireland's Beer and Cider to see it they comply with our and finance acts definition of irish craft.

It depends on your data connection in the pub - not always good, and on knowing the brewery. Cute Hoor does not have an obvious brewer on the tap, and I'm not sure if taps of Mcargles exist (do they?) nor if they say "Rye River Brewing" on it?
