Grr. Stupid maths.

Post fixed. Just give us a tenner and STFU.

would a €1 donation in a glass per person every meet up night for homebrew in the Bull And Castle (or at other meetup nights that occur around the country) not be more than enough to fund the cost of software and other technical stuff for this site? The fact that the likes of CAMRA charges people for the information on beers really annoys me..I'd hate to see this site go the same way. I really can't see how if certain people would spend a tenner on a 'membership' or whatever it happens to be called is going to be beneficial. For example, if someone who has paid a tenner finds out some information about a beer or a brewery or something like that, are they going to post it here like they normally would, or are they going to post it on beoir.ie where only paid members can read it?

Don't worry delzep. That's not what we're at. ICB will stay as it is. All of the articles will remain free and that includes new articles. The members area of the forum will only be used for discussions directly relating to Beoir campaign activities. Any threads about beer or brewing, or indeed general interest which are started in the Beoir area will be moved to the appropriate area and will be available to everyone. The tasting sessions will remain open to all.

We are starting this organisation so that we can campaign and be taken seriously. "We have a website with X number of registered members" or "We are a consumer group with X number of paid up members", which would be taken more seriously?

Great news. Looking forward to doing my bit.

It just seems like a bit of a 'well we all like beer...but some of us like it so much we will pay extra for the privilege of posting about it' which may excludse others. At the end of the day, surely the whole idea is about drinking beer...not typing words on a computer about it.

I remember reading a quote about a beer book recently about whether it was worth paying X amount for the opinion of others on the beers in the book, or paying the same amount on simply drinking the beers himself. Seems a good point I think. Also I think the point about the euro or 2 in a glass every meetup would be very much welcomed by participants

delzep, we're not doing that.

We formed ICB because we want to talk about beer and brewing with anyone who is interested. That hasn't changed and we are not changing ICB to exclude anybody from the discussion, whether they join Beoir or not. ICB works as it is and we are not changing that.

There will be no super secret, exclusive discussion of beer for members only. As I said in my previous post, if a thread about beer starts in the Beoir area, I, or one of the other admins, will move it out into Craft Beer Talk or whatever other area is appropriate.

We are forming Beoir to allow us to extend our membership beyond those who participate in internet forums. This will enable us to voice our desire to see more quality Irish beer in Irish pubs and maybe actually have people take notice.
