That's fine Brian, however do note my interest rate is equivalent to a payday loan! ;D

Thanks for organising this Padraic. Great to sample the flavours yet very surprised at the aroma and taste of some not as expected! Looking forward to next week.

Excellent evenning!

Mega praise to Pardraic and especially his notes:

A few comments:

1. Some of the flavours were on the limit of detection by some of us so next time just start with 500 mL of H and if too strong ( like only 2 tonight ) add some more.

2. Offer the samples blind for every body to try to guess the flavour then tell us!

3. Keep the empty vials (labelled!!) as a "smell bank" Frozen and thawed out at future meets they will provide an invaluble smell reference bank.

4. Tube has NO sense of smell!!

5. The brew Dock is a great place and many thanks to them for hosting us!

6. Adding some of the "Off Flavours" to Heino "appeared" "allegedly" to improve the flavour of the neutral test beer!!!

7. Might help the "nose" if the base beer is not cold?

Looking foreward to next week, after number 8 ( #4 ) ( Baby Vomit ) it has to get better?? Please????

Will

Thanks guys I enjoyed the tasting last night! There were a few lessons learned as Will said I think blind samples are a good idea. I normally don't want to go against the guidelines on dilution of chemicals but the idea of smaller amounts of beer is one I wouldn't mind trying next week. The other one I think is room temperature beer is probably a good idea instead of cold.

So next week we'll have:
1. room temp beer
2. smaller dilution (750ml)
3. blind samples

Let me know if any of the above is a bad idea!

I won't run a poll as threatened last night to ask which of the off flavours didn't improve our test beer!

I think if I didn't know what I was looking for, I would have missed a few of the flavours last night.

In order of ease of detection for me would be
Soil
Green apples
Cooked corn
Acetic
Marzipan
Baby vomit
Diacetyl (which didn't smell/taste especially buttery to me, but did taste different from the control Heino)
Sewer (which I didn't really detect at all)

It was interesting how much variety there seemed to be between tasters.
