Franciscan Well Cask and Winter Ales Festival 2012 14 years 2 months ago #61

I'll be there on the Friday at opening (don't want to miss some of the casks which will likely be gone in a matter of hours) and on the Saturday. And maybe on the Sunday if I'm still in any kind of shape and in the mood after the late Saturday rugby game (which I'm wondering if they'll show it on the small tv inside…).

As a CAMRA member from Across The Water I'm really looking forward to trying so many Irish cask beers in the same place at the same time; most for the first time ever. But I was just wondering if there are any other beery events on in the City or even Dublin, where I go on to afterwards (Mon.- Wed.), that I should be made aware of?

Obviously I would hate to travel that far and miss anything of interest.

Hope to see some of you there I'll be looking-in on the Friday night.

As has been said already I don't want to risk any of the casks getting supped dry in the opening session!

Cheers,
John Holland, Gateshead, North East England.

No events as such (we're new to this!) -- but there are quite a few pubs now doing decent beer. If cask is your thing it's still in fairly short supply with only a few pubs having beer engines, and at that none has more than two.

My advice would be, when you get done at the Well, take a leisurely stroll down the road to the Bierhaus. They have a cask engine and plenty of other great beer on tap. It should be quieter than usual because of the festival.

Otherwise, head to Dublin and do a cask and/or beer venue - pub crawl.

Oh and keep an eye out for us Beoir members. Most of us will be wearing Beoir T-Shirts no doubt.

Is this you[/url:3l08gbuh] on the left?

Thanks a lot for the confirmation that the Bierhaus is still good; I've been before. So I'll give it another try. As for there not being many pubs doing cask that's what I thought but maybe this festival will be the catalyst for change?

I'll lookout for the Beoir T-shirted crowd, say hello and question anybody who'll listen as to whether or not Barrelhead and Metalman have their own breweries yet?

Yes that's me in photograph but I must have been painting the ceiling beforehand as I'm sure I'm not as grey as that normally!

Metalman does yes. Not sure if the current stock of metalman is from there or not.
