Due to the success of the last camping weekend, I thought it might be fun to arrange the odd Beoir day out.

Maybe everyone meets at a train station and heads somewhere for the day, not overnight unless that is decided.

Now this we can relate to. SWMBO does [u:1bbjcmii]NOT[/u:1bbjcmii] do camping but loves trains ( as I do )

Steam is definitley the way to travel, with a nice buffet car selling ICBs. ( This is the UK model for steam excursions )

What about the "Beoir West Coast Extraveganza": Steam from Dublin to the West, and as we pass thro' areas who brew ICB we crack open a few bottles of the elixir. Then end up in a brewery in the West before taking the ( very late night ) train back to Dublin

In 20 plus years living here the only train I've taken is the bloody Dart from Malahide to Dublin

Count us in

Cheers

If we want a steam train excursion then we have to act quickly. There wasn't as many steam excursions this year as normal due to a change in legislation. The next one is in four weeks time, see here for details: [url:3bt4yun9]http://www.steamtrainsireland.com/mayrailtour/[/url:3bt4yun9]

I reckon taking a scheduled diesel railcar to Galway would be just as much fun. Out in the morning, back in the evening.

Granted steam engines are deadly, I can vouch for the RPSI excursions. Worth every cent.

Well... the bus will have to do then. The citylink for instance has a non stop service. It is quicker than the train to be honest. Often it is a double decker with toilet as well. Could always get the train there (so you can drink if you like) and then bus home. That said, I think the last one is 7pm

Irish rail is bloody useless I have to say. I don't care if they make a loss at certain times, they are a state company and should be providing a proper service regardless.
It is ridiculous that you can't get from Dublin to Mullingar by train after 7pm on a weekday.

Anyway it does not even have to be as far afield as Galway. We could go closer to home as well but Galway does have a lot to offer the craft beer drinker.

It would be very nice to pre-arrange some sort of excursion with one of the preservation groups.
