Again the idea of some new or guest beers coming on stream for the festival is most welcome. As for an award scheme based as per the majority voting as seems to be suggested I for one would normally try the beers I have not had before or that interest me in particular. I was in the Well last Thursday with Rossa from this site and had a pint of Shandon Stout and Rebel Red and they were both really superb, the stout in particuclar. Now on a Festival week-end I am not going to be drinking these drinks because I can have them any time locally and appreciate them. As a result these and other good beers may not be voted whilst they may be as good as the newer or guest beers at the festival In the overall scale of things I would rate Shandon Stout on a par with O'Hara's etc. and Rebel Red on its home turf as a superb red beer.

So, the vote is in and we're going with a generalised awards system. Thanks to those who provided arguments on both sides, and to everyone who voted.

The mechanics of the awarding require a new thread[/url:3rq4n1ah], I think.
