I was surprised by the price in Bull & Castle too, I realise that a certain price needs to be paid to cover overheads but the price of bottles seemed huge.

It was €5.75 for a 350ml bottle of Sierra Nevada which costs €2.56 in O'Briens. I assume that they get it for less. Thats a huge mark up to be paying.

I will agree with this, it's a really nice looking bar, but all I was saying is that it's pricey and that was my only complaint.

Went in last weekend for one. Great selection upstairs and the barman was quite knowledgeable. Prices are crazy though. Barman was saying how it's never busy upstairs. I can see why.

I cant seeing it staying open the way it is. Nobody would stay for more than 1. Even tourists!! Shame really because i really like the place. I'll be in no rush to go back though

Any update on prices, has anyone visited this week? Are they still a bit ridiculous? Going to be in town this weekend and would consider dropping by for one as TheBeerNut said it was a nice setting, but time is limited and if it's still as pricey as the above posts have indicated, I'll probably have to give it a miss as it will just take time out of the rest of my pub schedule to go in there, enquire, be shocked at prices and have to backpedal!

Just in here at the moment. What a lovely place, but prices are still quite steep. Irish craft pints are €5.70. Can't imagine how much Chimay costs! I'll be tipping on after the one, pity!

The building is spectacular: a wonderful grand staircase twisting up to the entrance and the room is spacious without being cavernous. Great views over Ha'penny Bridge.

The range is excellent: most of the Irish stuff you'd expect, plus Sierra Nevada and a few Belgians and Germans. Chimay White on tap, as well as the aforementioned Bernardus Wit. No cask yet, but it's planned for if it all works out. The manager is formerly of The Porterhouse in Temple Bar. He knows what he's doing.

The bad news: it's Temple Bar pricing. Pints start at €5.50 and go north from there. The Bernardus was over €8 (I was directed to Friar Weisse when I made my <!-- s:shock: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_eek.gif" alt="" title="Shocked" /><!-- s:shock: --> face).

There will be special offers and the like when they get down to the last few kegs of any beer that's not being renewed, but I reckon it'll be tough getting beer geek repeat business when The Porterhouse, Bull & Castle and Messrs Maguire are nearby and cheaper.[/quote:217xifox]
