Right, time for my say.

I don't know where the idea that Craft beer is coming into pubs at any cheaper a price that would suggest a premuim mark up on behalf of the retailer is coming from. I know the price of all beers we buy in, and I can tell you that we make the same GP% with micro beers as we do with macro. The micro guys charge what they carge to cover more expensive transport & packaging and whatever they put into glasses / promo material / websites etc.

We know that there are some places charging more than others (thats their decision if they have high rates / rent etc), but there is a lower end price being charged by most that is simply because of the purchase price of the product in the first place.

And I know of one company that charges less than €130 per keg, and believe me it not worth it.

Tuborg is €88 for a 50L keg, and at €3.30 retail it still has a higher margin than Carlsberg.

Re-education of the pub trade is slow,if you let them think that the best way to attract back customers is to stock craft beer that cost them the same as macro beer and then charge more, you will create a backlash in time against a feeling of being ripped off by the punters. The new craft brewers will suffer for this.

I've been in contact with David from brewery lane via facebook.

Here is a little update for those not on FB or not following from their FB page.

[quote:27dcakpa]Brewery Lane Hey Reuben, I decided to take your advice and [b:27dcakpa]I have joined Beoir.org[/b:27dcakpa] I have also spoken wuith one of their members and he had enquired about using Brewery Lane as a possible venue for future meetings. [b:27dcakpa]We have also reviewed our pricing and I am happy to say that this took effect as of yesterday.[/b:27dcakpa] Please feel free to visit the Bar or even the page as I find your tips useful Thanks again, David[/quote:27dcakpa]

So, I'm not sure what the new pricing is but hopefully it's far more reasonable. I "might" pop in their tonight.
