Messrs Maguire American Pale Ale 14 years 2 months ago #1

They're doing their level-best to keep people from drinking it, but there is a new seasonal APA in Messrs Maguire at the moment. It's tucked away among the mainstream taps on the ground floor bar, and the badge just says "Seasonal Special". And it's pretty good: get it while it's fresh.

Had a pint of it last Saturday week. Noticed the label on the tap and asked... was told "it's a homebrew pale ale".

Why does this only happen in Messrs?

Most bars that specialise in craft beers have management who aren't openly hostile to craft beer. MM is not one of those places.

Haha thats gas.
I think Messrs is kind of different to the other craft beer places in town...
Speaking from experience of my 5 or 6 visits.
Craft Beer is not entirely its USP. I think if they didnt sell any craft beer, they'd get almost the same crowd.
It seems to be popular with the young'ns (at night anyway).

Although, if you're going to sell it, why not train your staff to be knowledgeable and push it.

I dont understand the business plan they are using here. It would surely be worthy of study by marketing and business schools,"subject, how to f**k up your USP and still keep trading". <!-- s:shock: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_eek.gif" alt="" title="Shocked" /><!-- s:shock: -->

As regards Messrs, the answer is simple: location, location, location.
