I read this post before dropping into ATG yesterday evening, I pulled up a seat at the bar and ordered my first pint of O'Haras IPA. It was really disappointing I have to say. Aroma was very weak for an IPA, the taste wasn't great either - I find it hard to put my finger on exactly what was wrong but it did remind me a little bit of Carlton Draught which is the a pretty poor beer made in Melbourne. A lingering aftertaste as if there was something up with the water.

I was able to finish the pint though and ordered a bottle of Odells IPA, which was lovely.

Are you aware of the fact that IPA in O'Haras IPA stands for
Irish Pale Ale not India Pale Ale?

The beer tap states that the beer has been dry hopped which would suggest a significant hop aroma should be present.

Ok then, wasn't sure cause u also mentioned Odells IPA ...

It is though that they do call it an IPA. Most people would look at that and think India Pale Ale, had I not been aware of this beer beforehand I would have expected an India Pale Ale, in that regard I think it is a little disingenuous to use the Acronym IPA even if the standards are not set in stone.

I would have thought something like Gaelic Pale Ale might make more sense because further down the line there will be just more confusion for the casual punter
