Sin É to close? 15 years 2 months ago #1

Sin É has called a creditors meeting for February 15th, probably indicating that it is to close. It's a pity really, because that area of the quays could do with a bit of life. It used to have decent ambience and a few decent beers on tap and in bottle, but the staff appeared disinterested to me for the past year or so. Accounts have not been filed since October 2009.

awful shame that!! Considering the direction property prices are going you'd imagine landlords would be more willing to reduce rents, rather than risking losing a tennant and quite possibly having to reduce rent anyway in order to get someone to replace them.
I see greed is all too alive and well still in Ireland....Makes me appreciate being out of the country all the more!.......although I miss the choice of beer available compared to here!! <!-- s:cry: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cry.gif" alt="" title="Crying or Very sad" /><!-- s:cry: -->

lynchfella,

most people do not understand how the property market works. I do not know the full circumstances of the above case. But the landlord bashing at present is disgraceful with out knowing the full circumstances.

sorry i came to this late, but the last comment is ignorant, typical somebody standing for election.

Mortages have still to be paid. Rents cannot be reduced long term unless mortages are reduced, which means banks writing some of the loan off, which will eventually mean they will need to be recapitalised again, by you guessed it, the taxpayer.

A more complicated scenario than just greedy landlords.

I'd say that comment was made on the basis of the sign in the Sin É[/url:188opuzw] window saying they were closing because the landlord was not willing to drop the rent. I guess that's all we, the pub-going public, get to know about the case.

Whatever the reasons, it certainly is a shame.
