I was commenting on the greed comment. It was a comment based on a very biased, single side of the story. Landlords are business man too, a deal must make sense for them too. Who knows what Sin É were asking for?

There is some very daft stuff going on.

Some landlords would prefer a premises empty than to be rented at a loss, even on a short term, or short notice lease.

I'd be a Landlord bashing fan, especially after many unsuccessful attempts to lease properties at reasonable rents.
But some business' are simply mis-managed which is not the Landlords fault. When the Landlord is one of many creditors, something/one else is usually at fault.(I'm not saying Sin é was in debt BTW).

A juice bar nearby just closed with a rent the equivalent of a €0.5 mil turnover bar. That's an example of greed right there. I know there are some decent Landlords out there, now's their opportunity to shine.

I Know, i caused this argument, but being a chartered surveyor, i think i know more than most. Irish landlord and tenant law is in the tenants favours, with one exception, the upward only rent review. If landlords lose this point, civil war will happen with no landlord granting a long lease unless the contract out option of 2007 civil amendment bill. Tenants are use to getting high premium for their leases which will not happen in the short term. Peace has to happen , but with media at present landlord bashing a balance will not be meet.

ps sorry for causing this argument, but not all tenants or landlords are correct.

I have heard of a case where a decent landlord refused to change the upward only rent review, but gave six months without rent. We are in extraordinary times, normal rules do not apply here.

the landlord made a monkey of the tenant in your case, although most people will not understand it unless you know about property.
